Game-A-Week is an intensive program in which participants will create prototype games, one game each week. The aim of this program is to get comfortable with the practice of rapid prototyping: working quickly to create a small playable game that effectively proves or disproves a design concept. Drawing influence from game jams, the program will prompt you with weekly thematic, aesthetic, or mechanical constraints (e.g. "time" or "black-and-white" or "one-button input"). This iteration of the Game-A-Week concept is adapted from the course concept originally developed by Douglas Wilson and Bennett Foddy
New to the Game-A-Week format? Here is what you can expect...
EXPERIMENT
Game-A-Week is an opportunity to try out lots of little ideas and to push yourself to experiment with different approaches to game making. We're not striving for polish here, instead the focus is on the joy of creation and exploration. Each week we'll share a new theme and some cool examples to get you creatively energised!
PLAY
Each week we'll spend the first half of the meet-up playing each other's games so it's a great chance to play a bunch of cool new things made by your community. Game-A-Week is also about having fun so you can drop in and out at any time over the event , or just come for the vibes and to play something cool!
CONNECT
Over the course of the event you'll have an opportunity to connect with your local community of practice and share your weird games with like-minded people. A huge part of Game-A-Week is just the great vibes of hanging out with cool people!

The weekly structure aims to challenge you to focus on concepts and experimentation over trying to make something polished each week, so you're encouraged to engage with the full course for maximum effect. That said, a huge element of game a week is connecting to your community so anyone is welcome to join regardless of how many games they make.
While we recommend participating in-person, you can also participate online through our Discord. The 'theory' portion of the event will be streamed and active conversation about the event will mostly occur there.
No ticket is required if you are attending online. Tickets are for a headcount of the space we're using.
